I wish this was the future of the Republican party, unfortunately, it's Sara Palin instead. [22 Nov 2008|11:51pm]
"If we're going to survive as a party, we need to focus on the environment. There's a fundamental tone deafness with our party when it comes to the environment ... The last place we can be as a party is be viewed as the anti-science party. That's not a model for the future."

-- Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R), discussing the future of the Republican party

Not all Republicans are idiots.

James Taylor knows what's up:

Let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children
Can grow free and strong
We are bound together
By the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound

Cant get no light from the dollar bill
Dont give me no light from a tv screen
When I open my eyes
I wanna drink my fill
From the well on the hill

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Oh, let us turn our thoughts today
To martin luther king
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood

I'm Glad the Election's Over, but let's talk about a few things. [16 Nov 2008|10:53am]
1. I hate Sara Palin as much as the next (reasonable) person but it's total bullshit what the McCain campaign is doing to her. You can't blame her for your loss. Yes, she's an idiot. Yes, she said a lot of shit she shouldn't have. But this is still your fault. You can't expect to pluck a young, super conservative governor from Alaska, whose never given a speach to more than a city council and a moose, plop her in front of an entire nation and expect her to do well. This is not her fault. This is McCain and his campaigns fault. They mismanaged the entire situation, and now they're blaming her because she's an easy target. Not cool.

2. In CA Proposition 8 passed, re-writing the constitution to ban gay marriage. I can't even wrap my mind around this. The arguments against gay marriage are Medieval and ridiculous. "Oh, if we let gay people, what's to keep people from marrying animals or inanimate objects?" Really? "Marriage is not a civil right, it's about morals and dignity." Really? Keep your bible out of our government. If you want to live in a country where religion determines the laws go to Iran. You'd fit right in. Intolerance is awesome.
Also, what totally blows my mind, is that 7 out of 10 black voters in CA voted for prop 8 (against gay marriage). So much for a civil rights victory. So much for a beautiful day when the formerly oppressed rise to the top. You cried tears of joy for Obama, and I was right there with you, but it's a one way street. You're on the other side of the oppression now. How can you celebrate this momentous civil rights victory, and then deny civil rights for others? Obama is the product of a black woman and a white man. If inter-racial marriage rights had still been up in the air in Hawaii, like they were in Alabama and Georgia, he wouldn't even exist. There would be no Obama. An now you want to deny that same right, the right that has catapulted you to glory, that has made you weep across the country and showed the world how far America has come, and you want to take it away from another group. So, fuck you 7 out of 10 black voters. Fuck you.

3. I am so glad this election is over. But I'm ready to begin the long fight against PropHate.

Happy about Obama

Sad about Prop8

Planning a new tattoo. I'm waiting for some sort of accomplishment, so I can reward myself with it. I'm thinking either a fish or a bird. Here are some drawings I like:

Dear Hillary Clinton supporters,
It's over. You lost. You didn't even lose badly, it was a close race. But you lost. And it's still over. Lick your wounds quietly and get over it. Are you really going to vote for John McCain now? Really? Is that really what you're going to do? You're going to ruin our nation's chance at moving forward because you're sore losers? Do you really think that McCain is a better choice than Obama? Do you really think that McCain better represents Hillary's positions than Obama? Or are you just bitter, spiteful, vindictive people? If Hillary had won would she have chosen Obama as running mate? 100% no, she would not have. Now please, please, for the sake of this nation, get over it and stop acting like crazed lunatics.

Thanks.

I have decided to either make this livejournal useful, or delete it. Within the next few weeks I will try to post interesting things on here. I have taken to actually making the internet useful, and am finding lots of interesting articles and things to learn about.

I can't really believe my second year of college just ended. It went by so fast and I don't feel like I really did anything useful. I'm here in SD in my "house" in which I don't have a room so all my clothes and stuff are in the garage, because of course I can't live in the guest room, that's for guests. I get the garage? Sweet. I have been dreading summer since I agreed to work and live at home all summer.

I'm taking summer classes and working all summer. Scott is gone until August 10th.

Next year is shaping up to be good though. I have an apartment for next year with a Religious Studies major and a Classics major who throw bitching parties. I'll be 21, I'm taking Insect Ecology and tutoring for the Lit department. Scott and I have taken over two organizations on campus and are making them useful. I'm starting my marine biology minor and hopefully studying in Costa Rica in the spring.

When is everybody's Winter breaks this year? I think I'm going to plan a visit for then, instead of this summer, because the dates I would be able to come Dara and Nick would both be gone.

Advice Needed [10 May 2008|12:14pm]
I have come to the realization that I have no friends here in college except Scott. How do I make friends? I've tried joining clubs, doing sports, everything I can think of.

What should I do?

I wish people would leave that girl from the Elliot Spitzer case alone. She's not important, and her life has just blown up her face. Also, there's nothing to report. The "stories" are literally summaries of her Myspace page. Leave the poor girl alone.

Also, Scott and I are going to do a radio show next quarter. I'm pretty excited. We're going to play funk, ska and jazz (and of course some gangsta rap).

I have to get out of San Diego. I'm planning to study abroad. It might extend my college life by a quarter or even a year, but I don't care. I want to go see shit, and do shit. Fuck college.

Here's the plan:
Costa Rica this summer
Kenya this coming Fall
Costa Rica in the spring of next year
Australia in the fall of senior year.

I'm going to fuck myself over when it comes to college requirements, but at some point, I don't care.

I hope this works...

Welcome to the Future

So we're in the 21st century now, 2008, definitely what I would call "the future" in the 80's, back to the future, hall of innoventions, we should have flying cars by now kind of way. So why aren't their great spacey inventions coming out? Why aren't we all wearing silver spandex and moon shoes? Where is the future that Ford Motors and Disneyland promised me!

If you are like me and feeling a little bit gypped in this whole deal, never fear! At least one company is making something we are looking for. It's called the Nubrella and it is perfectly futuristic and ridiculous looking.

Much like the Dyson vacuum commercials, Nubrella inventor Alan Kaufman is quoted on their website saying: “I never planned on inventing a product I just noticed a problem and came up with a solution." In fact, I think that is actually a line from the Dyson commercial. Funny how inventors all think alike.

According to the Nubrella Website, Kaufman observed people's umbrellas blowing around and was struck with this brilliant idea! He ran over to a desk and sketched it out. And thus, the Nubrella! But wait, it gets better.

Not only does this Nubrella solve our long endured tribulations with the everyday umbrella, the Nubrella marketing team has managed to somehow relate their product to global warming. Instant points! They are quick to note that they are not necessarily global warming proponents, in an pussy-footery of great skill.

"Call it a cycle or call it science but at the present time we seem to be facing stronger storms and more frequent extreme conditions."

Well done Nubrella marketing.

But wait there's more. Nubrella also makes a very interesting statement about the state of the world in the future (which is now, if you're still confused). "In today’s world, weather is probably the second most discussed topic behind security."

Really Nubrella? I had no idea! In fact, I know several people who might attempt to refute that fact. But little do they know, you hold the key to the future.

And so, without further ado, the Nubrella in all its glory. You can indeed purchase this beautiful product for a meer $60!

So... [21 Feb 2008|10:00am]
So in Utah and Colorado it's now legal for students to carry concealed weapons on campus "to protect themselves from possible shooters." Legislation is pending in most midwestern states. It failed in Maryland, but Georgia and Alabama are leaning towards passing it. I feel like this is a very, very bad idea. There's a reason we don't allow guns in schools. There's also a reason I don't go to school in the Midwest I guess...

Everyone has gone home this weekend and it's made me realize how few friends I really have here. I mean, I like them all, but there just aren't that many that I really hang out with regularly. I guess now that I don't have a team or a club or anything it's harder to make friends, you have to go out and find them, but by now everyone already has friends and it's weird to encroach on that. I don't know. I miss Jersey more and more every day. The people here can be so conceited and obnoxious. I'm thinking about the city for grad school, if I can get in. Or abroad somewhere. I love the weather here, but San Diego sometimes sucks ass. I guess anywhere does. Maybe I'll go to Portland, that's a great city. I don't know, maybe I'm just in a funky mood. Maybe I'll get over it. I just know I need to find more friends.

In other news I might visit this summer. Around mid/late August. I'll let you know when I find out.

Oprah's version of King Lear [21 Jan 2008|05:08pm]
King Lear, as told by Oprah:

"An elderly king asks his three daughters how much they love him. The two older sisters deliver flowery speeches of filial adoration, but the youngest says only "I love you as meat loves salt."

The king, insulted by this homely simile, banishes the youngest daughter and divides his kingdom between the older two, who promptly kick him out on his royal heinie.

He seeks refuge in the very house where his third daughter is working as a scullery maid. Recognizing her father, the daughter asks the cook to prepare his meal without salt. The king eats a few tasteless mouthfuls, then bursts into tears. "All along," he cries, "it was my youngest daughter who really loved me!"

The daughter reveals herself and all ends happily."

Good work Oprah.

Dear Roze,
Stop waiting around for exciting things to happen to you. If you want fun/life/success you have to go out and get it for yourself. So stop dilly dallying and worrying and second guessing what people will think about it/you/whatever. Stop sitting around in your house complaining that you have nothing to do and that you don't know anyone in San Diego. Stop wishing you had more friends and start doing shit to make them. In summation, stop being such a bitch about life. Oprah says so.

Your pal.

Bored. 2008, get your ass in gear or I'll have to bust a cap.

The Sonnet

Deliberate Gentle Love Dreamer (DGLD)

The Sonnet

Romantic, hopeful, and composed. You are the Sonnet. Get it? Composed?

Sonnets want Love and have high ideals about it. They're conscientious people, caring & careful. You yourself have deep convictions, and you devote a lot of thought to romance and what it should be. This will frighten away most potential mates, but that's okay, because you're very choosy with your affections anyway. You'd absolutely refuse to date someone dumber than you, for instance.

Lovers who share your idealized perspective, or who are at least willing to totally throw themselves into a relationship, will be very, very happy with you. And you with them. You're already selfless and compassionate, and with the right partner, there's no doubt you can be sensual, even adventurously so.

You probably have lots of female friends, and they have a special soft spot for you. Babies do, too, at the tippy-top of their baby skulls.

Your exact female opposite:
